This store is a gem. Great selection of fresh produce, chutneys and spices is unique to the area. (If you can't find the vegetable you're looking for, ask - often it's hidden or in the back). Also they have wonderful additive-free frozen Indian prepared dishes. Everything is very well priced too. Where else can you get a big bunch of scallions and/or coriander for a buck? The staff is kind and helpful and will offer guidance if you are curious about a particular spice or vegetable's purpose. It's wonderful! Makes the big box stores look like a rip-off! I shop here for as much as I possibly can and only fill in at the other stores when absolutely essential.

Love this place ! Great fresh and frozen items . Kind folks who work there too . I've been shopping there for years

I love this place! After reading the other reviews posted, I decided I had to speak out. I don't know of any other Indian market near here -- Cosmos in West Hartford is closing (or perhaps it has already closed). I shop here for the items that I can't get anywhere else, and I don't care what the lighting is or whether it's a bit dingy. The selection and prices are great, and the cashier/owner is always friendly and helpful. Whole Foods sells only a fraction of these products at triple the price. I'm not knocking Whole Foods -- I love it and wish we had one in our area. Just suggesting that Raj's is a different experience and I love it for what it is -- a friendly neighborhood store, not owned by a giant corporation that offers products you can't get anywhere else.

i've been going here for several years. since moving to ct. i have started cooking many indian dish's and raj's has every hard to find items needed for authentic recipe's the spice section offers several size packages for your convenience and much cheaper than other grocery stores. store is very clean and organized and employees are very helpful in finding what you need store hrs are mon-sat 9:30am-7:00pm

Have been to this place numerous times. To begin with keep in mind this is not a Walmart or Stop and Shop. It is a store that sells ethnic, specifically Indian, food items. The store is spacious but do not expect to find the typical supermarket items. So why do we go here? Their selection of legumes, Beas, peas etc is one reason. Their fresh Asian veggies (go Thursday or Friday night soon after delivery) And then the assorted spices, the frozen meals and Basmati rice. They don't have the volume of buyers, I don't believe, that stores near populated areas have. So have to pay attention to expiration dates.

I live in Rhode Island, and am an ethnic Indian, though with very diverse food tastes. For Indian groceries, my reference and comparison points are the Indian grocery stores in Providence. In comparison to these Providence-area stores, the layout and selection of Raj Cash & Carry are very good. Of course, if I were to compare to Boston area (Waltham) and Edison, NJ Indian grocery stores, then Raj would fall short in terms of selection, display, speed of checkout, etc. But Boston-NYC-NJ are different markets, with very large ethnic Indian populations, and comparing Raj to these markets is simply irrelevant. For the entire Rhode Island and for most of Connecticut, what Raj offers is superior to available options within driving range.

Although the brown rice I bought was not what I expected, it's possible I bought the short grain in error instead of long grain. Just glad only bought a 10 pound bag. Next time I will keep the printed bag so I don't buy that variety again. Know what you want - they'll show you where it is if you make it clear what you're looking for. I was looking for millet flour which I happened to know is also called Bajri flour which they had when I called it that. Where else can you get millet flour anywhere around here. The selection was excellent. You can buy things here you won't find in most places, and certainly things you won't find locally. Only negative was they accept cash only.

Great store,Great selection of food items,They are very helpful & very gentle.Variety of spices & good price too.i am regular customer for the store. They have very compitable prices. They very fresh vegatables.
